UDL in the classroom

After reading the article about UDL, I think it is a great way to ensure that all students, no matter what type of learner, can really engage in the material being taught to them and understand the material in a way that is suitable to them. All too often teachers try and fit the student to the curriculum. With UDL, however, it does just the opposite.

In my own Kindergarten classroom, we have students on all different learning levels. It is a general ed class, however there are students who have learning disabilities and will be going into special education classes when they enter first grade (the special education department in my school only starts in first grade). Using UDL and having all different ways to engage the students and allow students to decide what will best help them understand the material would definitely help my students.

The only question I really have is can UDL really be applied to all lessons? Or are there certain times when there are only a limited amount of options as to how to learn something or show that a student knows a specific skill.
