I saw this post on Weblogg-ed, a blog by a former teacher named Will Richardson who writes quite a bit on the subject of using technology and Web 2.0 tools in the classroom. I think it gets to the eternal questions of WHY we should be using these technologies with our students. It's not that the old ways of teaching certain concepts don't work anymore - they do - but also we have a responsibility to introduce the new tools to the people who will be using them in their daily lives.
