When reading the article about universal design for learning, I started to think about how I would incorporate these technologies in my own teaching. In terms of professional development, there are several ideas that come to my mind. The over arching theme of the article was that teachers need to adapt the curriculum instead of students adapting to the curriculum. Therefore, I would love to learn about how to present information to young children in multiple contexts that would relate directly to my classroom and my students.
One need I have is to learn how to adapt already existing curriculums in order to bring in these assistive technologies. For example, in public and even private schools, there are scripted curriculum that teachers need to follow. I would be interested in how to add extensions to those curriculums, because they would not be curriculum created by myself.
Another is how to teach young children how to use these technologies. Not only do teachers of young children want students to learn from the technologies, but in order for them to even start to use them, they need to learn how to in simple steps they can understand.
Lastly, I am curious about what is appropriate for different age groups. For example, I am interested in teaching young children who are just beginning to read. I would be interested in learning about how to use pictures, illustrations, and oral media to present information to children who cannot yet read. Also, being able to incorporate games where students would be able to hear the directions instead of having to read them.
