cell phones in the classroom

I thought the podcast about using cell phones as a tool in the classroom was really interesting. Nowadays it seems that everyone including children, has some sort of smart phone so why not take advantage of it!
Although I have never used cell phones in the ways that were described, I do find that I use my cell phone as a tool in the classroom very often. I use it to take pictures of my children, email them to myself then print them out in the office. This way I can print the photos within seconds of taking them and hang them up while the experience is still fresh in the children's mind. Additionally, I use my cell phone to take videos of the children fairly often. At my job I am supposed to be doing regular observations of children (3 a month for each child) and recording them. Often times, I see something happening and want to catch it in real time because then I can go back later and transcribe what was being said or write down what happened.
It is amazing how far technology has come since we were kids. When I was in preschool the teacher would take pictures of us, take them in to be developed and then we wouldn't be able to look at them until the next week or even longer! I feel that although I do not use technology in some of the "fancier" ways that teachers of older children may do, I definitely use it to produce instant memories for my kids in the forms of photos and videos of themselves.
