I always believed that technology would help me save more time as a teacher. I remember when PowerPoint presentations were popular in my school. As a new teacher, I wanted to fit in so I created my first PowerPoint presentation for back to school night. I thought this endeavor would be simple and a time savor. I did not take into account that the school had Mac computers and I had a PC. I spent hours after school researching, understanding and mastering the Mac computer. Also the new Power Point version was released in school so I was now on another round of several hours of orientation.
I also thought that technology would keep me more organized as a classroom teacher.
After 10 years in the classroom I learned that technology presented me with a whole separate dimension of organizing challenges. I sometimes felt that I was drowning in too much information and overwhelmed by a flow of incoming emails, instant messages, Internet research and newsletters.
I enjoyed reading the articles this week and seeing technology in a different light. I am looking forward to learning what specific resources are important to me so technology can be an asset to me in the classroom and in my daily life.
